2. How do I assure my clients that buying from my site is safe?

Perhaps one of the biggest myths about the internet is that it is unsafe and that credit card details are stolen on a daily basis. However, in reality, there is as much fraud carried out online as there is offline.

Any websites offering transactions online must use the https:// protocol, which basically is a secure version of the normal http://. This protocol uses something called the secure sockets layer (SSL) to any encrypt data that is passed through it. This encryption prevents hackers from eavesdropping or interfering with any data that is passed between the user and the website.

One of the main ways you can assure customers that buying from your site is to point this out to them. If you are using a 3 rd party transaction agency, tell your customers about it so they are not confused or put off when it comes to actually paying for your goods or services.

If visitors have clicked to your website with the intention of buying a product or service, they will almost certainly be able to identify whether or not your site is secure. If you are still worried visitors may be dissuaded from purchasing from your site, provide an alternative method of transaction, for example provide a phone number for sales enquiries and deal with the transaction over the phone.

If a web user is really unsure about purchasing from your website, it is likely they will be unsure about purchasing from any website on the internet. If this is the case, it can prove a fruitless task trying to convince them otherwise.
