3. I've defined my keywords, why am I not higher in the search engines?

Even though you have defined keywords, they may not have been defined correctly or maybe completely irrelevant compared to the content on your website.

Firstly, your keywords should not exceed 250 characters as anything over this limit will be ignored by the search engines. You should also ensure you do not 'spam' with your keywords, i.e. repeat the same word or phrase over and over again, as search engines will simply ignore this.

Secondly, you need to ensure that your keywords can actually be found in your content. If your keywords do not accurately reflect what is contained in the main content on your site, search engines will be unlikely to give you a high position in their results.

Thirdly, your keywords many not actually reflect what is being searched for in the search engines. If you have just created your keywords on what you THINK people will search for, they will probably be inaccurate and therefore irrelevant.

Finally, keywords are not the only way search engines index your website, in fact, they form only a small part of a search engine's ranking algorithm. Although they do help significantly, they are part of a larger package that results in a top site ranking.
